On this milestone year, rising star Khalif Tahir Thompson ushers in the next 90 years at the Nelson-Atkins with an introduction to the subjects, environments, and material layers of their paintings, including Summertime, the monumental painting now on view thanks to a promised gift from Christy and Bill Gautreaux. Dr. Stephanie Fox Knappe, Sanders Sosland Senior Curator, Global Modern and Contemporary Art and Head, American Art sits down with the artist for a conversation as colorful and rich in texture as the artist’s paintings. Immediately following, join us in Bloch Lobby for a cake and champagne reception.
