KC Black Lives Matter: The Power of Art, Protest, and Community

Description

Join the Nelson-Atkins for a conversation with featured KC Art on the Block: A Black Lives Matter Project muralists— Adrianne Clayton, Warren Harvey, Avrion Jackson, Harold Smith, Michael Toombs and Vivian Wilson Bluett as they share their powerful stories and reflections on the one year anniversary of the largest Creative Placemaking event in recorded history, 2020’s KC Art on the Block. Natasha Ria El-Scari will lead this virtual panel discussion on the intersection of art, social justice and community. These stories and more are documented thanks to the museum’s oral history project conducted by the Spencer Art Reference Library and Archives.

Thank you to Natasha Ria El-Scari of Black Space Black Art and Crissy Dastrup for images of artists and murals.

Presented with live captioning.
